It’s been a busy few weeks, kinda hate that word ‘busy’, feels so
nondescript and so often used as an excuse. Nonetheless, January has
felt decidedly ‘busy’. A glimpse into such pursuits below, ranging from
a resumed hunt for the perfect wedding venue, styling an amazing bridal
photoshoot and squeezing in a spot of afternoon tea…

Knitwear Love Affair

I spoke a little while ago about the love affair I'm currently having with
knitwear, spurred by a kind of hibernation that I'm really quite happy
with and I think identifies with many at this time of year. With that in
mind, albeit slightly more light-hearted, I thought I'd show you a few
favoured items that I've been turning too again and again this season.

Importantly too, there's one brand that I've also been turning to as the
mercury dips. My friends over at Peregrine design and create the most
classically chic yet practical knitwear a girl could wish to want. All made
in the UK, their traditional Aran and cable knits are so super-warm, not
to mention luxuriously stylish, I've taken to wearing mine as a coatigan -
too good to cover up!

Something Borrowed...

Yesterday, the superstar team that I worked with on (my favourite)
milliner Rachel Drewer's Limelight campaign were reunited once more.
The ladies and I joined forces again to orchestrate a bridal fashion
photo shoot to present to the world Rachel's latest bridal collection
and some beautiful clothing from two top names in the South,
Hepwrights vintage and Shay Harris Bridal Lounge. Today, for your
viewing pleasure, is a very sneaky peek of our day... stay tuned for
more!

Making up our team were a collection of creative, talented women from
across the South. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Rachel again
and Angela Ward-Brown, who's photography is so naturally beautiful,
I'm almost at bursting point waiting to see her final shots. Joining us for
the first time was another fantastically talented photographer Ina Halsor
(just wait until you see her portraits), top make-up artists Vicky and Amy,
who captured our 1930's theme to a t, plus beautiful models Camilla,
Nikita and Emily.

Our stunning location was Hill Place, an exquisite Georgian villa in Hampshire -
I can't thank owners Rebecca and Will enough for their hospitality.

Ode to Nick Wooster

Nickelson Wooster is men's fashion director at Neiman Marcus and
Bergdorf Goodman. With Pitti Uomo concluding and Milan and Paris'
menswear fashion weeks beginning, this impeccably dressed gent is
once again plastered all over the street style blogs (lucky us).

For me, Nick's style exemplifies everything that's great about fashion.
He experiments, playing with proportion, colour, texture and designers
(not many could look quite so sartorially adept teaming a Thom Browne
suit with Redwings). He takes risks while piecing together beautiful
combinations. Its safe to say Nick, or his approach to style anyway, is
one of my long-time loves.

In Your Space: Interior Inspiration

Its time once again to pay a little homage to one of my most favourite blogs
(seriously, I talk about this dude ALL the time). Todd 'The Selby' Selby
recently visited Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch at his
apartment in Sao Paulo. Quirky sculptures, antique prints and exquisite
textiles sit amongst a backdrop of decaying grandeur. Ornate ceiling mouldings
look pristine while the interior walls are gently left to wear and tear.

The photos read like a carefully curated collection, a kind of gallery living space,
while personality, comfort and non-conformity are of the greatest importance.

running errands, and this Saturday's icy breeze called for one of my

Super-Stripes

Oversized jumpers and skinny jeans worn with high booties and an equally
oversized scarf has become my uniform of late. I can't seem to stray in to
anything else, nor do I want to. In the day job, I'm currently reading the team's
copy for the next issue of our MPDVision magazine, much of which focuses on
the rise in loungewear sales and trends resulting from continued consumer desire
for wellbeing as well as personal austerity.

The intimates and loungewear industry is experiencing a boom, as many of us
yearn for comfort, versatility and inadvertently protection in these tumultuous
times. I won't get all deep on you, and yes its cold, but think about it... times are
tough, life is perhaps harder than ever, work is stressful - how many times have
you chucked on a cosy knit and a pair of jersey leggings in the last few months?
I rest my case.

20'11' Best Bits

So 2011 was filled with some pretty good stuff... here's '11' highlights.

Another year, another London Fashion Week & a chance to catch
up with favourite brands, designers and friends.
This year I exhibited my photography for the first time.
The Betrothed and I ticked another couple of places off our travel
list, the stunning Santorini...
... And the amazing Venice.
I did some great outfit shoots, learning a few photography tips
sometimes by accident, sometimes from willing friends.
We found our wedding venue :)
We went to some beautiful weddings and I photographed a few too.
I was able to help some very special people in a few creative endeavours
and to celebrate some landmarks.
I celebrated my birthday surrounded by some of the best friends and
family.
We celebrated one very special 50th birthday.
Our little Dora got very poorly, but is now fitter and funnier than ever.

Thank you everyone who made 2011 great - you all know who you are. Here's
to 2012! xx

Happy Holidays Visual Diary Pt.2

Got the post-holiday blues yet? Whether your Christmas break consisted
of a vacation or staycation, its a guarantee that most of us are attempting
this week with a little less enthusiasm than usual. After a blissful week or so
with our nearest and dearest, going for chilly brisk walks, or swimming in
exotic oceans in between eating and drinking far too much, real life has ensued.
Its time once again to earn a crust and see what the next year brings... So
come on, diet and detox if you will, but I can't wait to tell you all about this
year's adventures and I sure can't wait to hear about yours.

Wish Want Wear for Christmas

Using Wish Want Wear, the luxury rental service, is easy. All you do
is browse their myriad of designer day dresses, gowns, bags and
jewellery, and find 'the one'. After that, simply select a date you want
your special package to arrive, rent for 4-8 days and once you're done
and the party's over, send back in their self-addressed envelope. With
rental prices under 50 quid for some items, you'd be mad not to take
advantage of this fabulous concept.

You may recall I took Wish Want Wear for a whirl before, borrowing
this gorgeous Temperley dress last New Year's Eve. Well great service
sticks and so this Christmas I decided to indulge in a rather festive Tibi
day dress. Even better, I wasn't sure what size I'd be, so they sent
options! A word of advice my dear fashion friends, with fashion month
just around the corner, purse strings pulled tight and London rail fares up
11% this year, I suggest you get booking!

Happy Holidays Visual Diary Pt.1

Well Hello There and a Happy New Year! I'm now back in the office,
rested (not sure my kidneys agree), after the holidays, ready and raring
for an exciting and intriguing 2012! So come on, tell me, how were your
holidays, what did you get up to? What's next for you in 2012, tell my
everything Darling!

In summary, our holidays consisted of throwing a hilarious 70s themed
Christmas Eve party (complete with flares and cheese fondue), hosting
Christmas Day for the first time, heading back to my homeland and
spending time at the beach and generally fitting in as much time with friends
and family as possible. Happy days.

Snapshop Style Giveaway Winner Announced!

Forest Walks

Back in October I told you a little about the fledgling knitwear brand
Rosie Sugden Scottish Cashmere. Rosie's accessories have since become
a press favourite, being featured in the likes of Elle, Grazia and The
Telegraph. I consider the knitted turban an absolute must-have this season,
its so versatile, able to dress up or down and so soft and cosy for these
cold winter months.

A great design, and a beautiful example of quality Scottish produce, I'd feature

American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend - Day 2

Day 2 of the American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend was
just as fun-filled as Day 1 - be sure to read all about it, along with the
important goals of the event here.

I took my good friend Coco along for a spot of spending on Sunday
and we made the most of the bargains and entertainment on offer as
part of the event. From swing dancing to gospel choirs and the amazing
Oxford Street and Regent Street Christmas lights, the whole weekend put
me in a thoroughly festive mood!

Fireworks and X Factor alumni Joe Mcelderry closed the show, while
shoppers reportedly carried on, subsequently raising more for Kids Company,
well in to the evening.

December Blogger Brunch

In amongst my marathon shopping weekend, I had the chance to take
a break for brunch with friends and some of my favourite bloggers. We
gathered at a great little café, Bill’s in Covent Garden, for a bite to eat
and to catch up on common ground.

American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend - Day 1

This weekend I set myself a challenge. Could it be possible to complete
all my Christmas shopping in one hit? What destination could provide
such variety as to fill all my family and friend’s festive wishes? Could any
help be at hand to make such a mammoth session of retail therapy stress-
free and dare I say, fun?

Step in the American Express Shop West End VIP weekend. From
Saturday 10th December, to Sunday 11th, London’s Oxford Street
and Regent Street were completely closed to traffic. Event organisers
New West End Company, worked with Westminster Council, Transport
for London, the Metropolitan Police and 600 retailers to put on the
seventh traffic free VIP Day shopping event which involves diverting 1,000
buses to install two miles of activity and fun for the world’s most heartfelt
Christmas shopping day.

The most important aim of the day was a fundraising initiative by American
Express to aid charity Kid’s Company. Over the weekend American Express,
as well as giving card members double rewards, donated £1 to Kids Company
every time a card was used in the West End over the weekend, with a target of
£50,000, and hundreds of fundraisers joined 2,000 carollers and 1,000
entertainers to make the weekend one to remember for shoppers shrugging off
the economic gloom and Kid’s Company, who will use the money to give 3,000
children a magical Christmas.

Proceedings kicked off on Saturday at 11.30 am with a group of carollers (all
named Carol, Caroline etc etc and including children from Kid's Company),
marking the start of a 30 hour carol-o-thon. Kid's Company founder Camila
Batmanghelidjh thanked all involved and invited the crowd to get shopping!

The weekend was a huge success, not only for the charity but for retailers
too. 1.6 million shoppers spent an estimated £280 million during a special
traffic-free two-day period, according to news service Demotix, marking the
strongest weekend’s trading of the year.

The event included a jam-packed line-up of entertainment, with Carter’s
fun fair occupying Regent Street and singers, carollers and dancers entertaining
the masses along every stretch of high street. A particular favourite was a
Victorian themed quartet complete with double bass, accordion and wash board!

Many retailers, including John Lewis, also had entertainment in-store. The quality
retailer staged hourly fashion shows showing of their 2011 party collection 'Winter
Wonderland'.St Christopher's Place, an intimate shopping street off Oxford Street.

American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend Launches Tomorrow

Tomorrow sees the launch of the American Express Shop West End
VIP Weekend, I'll be there ready to soak up the festive atmosphere
and great deals from top retailers as well as to help raise a load of cash
for great charity Kids Company. A Carol-A-Thon will kick things off at
11.30am at Oxford Circus, with many more exciting events happening
all weekend to keep shoppers occupied!

On Wednesday, in London’s West End, Christmas carollers (including
ladies called Carol) warmed up their vocal chords with the West End
Gospel Choir in preparation for this weekend’s Longest Christmas Carol-
A-Thon. Christmas shoppers will be out in force for the biggest West End
shopping weekend of the year when Oxford and Regent Street go traffic
free with a festive feast of 2 miles of entertainment and hundreds of
shoppers joining the 30 hours of Christmas Carol singing at Oxford Circus
to raise over £75,000 for Kids Company.

The West End Christmas Carol-a-thon will involve thousands of shoppers,
with House of Fraser hosting the night shift of singers in their Oxford Street
shop window. Organisers at New West End Company, and event sponsors
American Express, predict that the charity carollers are likely to sing
favourites including We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Hark the Herald
Angels Sing over 250 times.

Over the weekend American Express, as well as giving Cardmembers double
rewards, are donating £1 to Kids Company every time a card is used in the
West End over the weekend, with a target of £50,000, and hundreds of
fundraisers will join the 2,000 carollers and 1,000 entertainers to make
the weekend one to remember for shoppers shrugging off the economic
gloom and Kid’s Company, who will use the money to give 3,000
children a magical Christmas.

Comments Jace Tyrrell from New West End Company, “Retailers are pulling
out all the stops for what is set to be the biggest American Express Shop
West End VIP experience ever, with £150 million set to go through the tills
and two whole days of traffic-free shopping. Everyone from the local street
wardens to established pop stars will be lending their voices to the Carol-A-
Thon across the weekend and with other traditional Christmas music acts and
entertainment up and down Oxford Street and Regent Street, shoppers are in
for a real festive treat.”

Says Camila Batmanghelidjh, Founder of Kids Company “We hope
shoppers will come down and join in the West End Carol-A-Thon and enjoy
themselves and help us make this a cracking Christmas for 3,500 kids.”

The Joiners Arms – the small music venue in the heart of Southampton that has,
in the past, played host to the likes of Oasis and Coldplay as ‘up-and-comers’.
First opening its doors in 1968, many household names, from the Arctic Monkeys
to The Verve have cited the place as host to some of their finest gigs and
somewhere ‘you have to play’ to get started in the business.

On Monday 5th December, Delilah, the British singer who reportedly has the
industry ‘in a bit of a stir’, performed her first headline gig at The Joiners. She was
supported by Southampton's very own soulstress Kim Kirby and pop/soul songbird
Charley Macaulay plus MC Influx, whom I can all thoroughly recommend. Now, you
may have heard Delilah's beautifully ethereal tones on Chase and Status’ Time, or
on her first single Go. Those of you that are familiar with my musical tastes will know
that I’m a sucker for a beautiful warbling woman and with Delilah’s heady mix of
soul, folk and dubstep sounds, I’m hooked.

After a two year stint touring the world with Chase and Status, a spate of solo gigs
have commenced, while her second single Love You So is already available on
iTunes. Last Monday’s gig was probably the best intimate performance I’ve ever
seen, if you get the chance to see this Londoner perform soon, grab it.

South Blogger's Meet Up

Last Saturday I had the great pleasure of catching up with a few fellow
bloggers at the South Bloggers Meet Up. Organised by the lovely Michelle
of Daisy Butter, the group’s specialisms ranged from fashion to lifestyle
and beauty, extending conversation on the day from anything to travel,
behind-the-scenes tales from workplaces and expectedly, vintage fashion.

Bournemouth to Brighton, and even better I’ve extended my reading list
with some great new blogs! Already looking forward to another catch up
next year.

Friday Five

November was a pretty awesome month and incidentally, I didn't manage to
do a 'Friday Five' for the whole of it, so consider this a catch up. Last month
was great for a number of reasons, there were special birthdays, weddings and
I got to meet perfect people for the very first time. I managed to catch up with
more of my loved ones than usual, and generally got to experience some pretty
cool things.

I hosted a fair few birthday shindigs, with my Mum and The Betrothed
heading up the fancy catering.
I watched an old friend have a fantastic wedding day.
I met a beautiful new addition to our family.
I worked hard but got to try on these bad boys at recent press days (left
- Crisian & McCaffrey, right - United Nude SS12)
I ate way too much good food, all month.

On a parting note, if any of you find Google Reader or even Bloglovin a little
cumbersome to keep track of your favourite blogs or to spot new ones, I
simply suggest you take a daily peek at Miss Moss. I seem to find all my
'new favourites' via this awesome lady's blog. Here's some that recently caught

American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend - London’s Mayor and Britain’s Top Retailers Launch Hunt for Christmas Carolling ‘Carols’

Feeling festive yet? I don't know about you but the 1st December usually marks
a bit of a shift for me. Christmas songs start filling the radio waves, a hoard of
office parties are on the horizon and I start thinking about that mammoth food
shop, mmm.... Of course, I should also mention shopping at this time of year -
what fashion blogger worth their salt wouldn't? Yesterday, I posted a little
preview of a retail extravaganza that's set to take over London soon, and
today I have more news on the ' American Express Shop West End traffic-
free VIP Weekend'.

A charity choir of carollers (called Carol - genius) will open the event with
London’s Longest Christmas Carol-A-Thon. London’s Mayor and leading
UK retail bosses came together on the steps of All Souls Church on Regent
Street today to lead the search for Christmas carollers called Carol to kick off
a 30 hour charity Christmas Carol-A-Thon. Running across American Express
Shop West End VIP Weekend on 10 and 11 December, which will see Oxford
Street and Regent Street closed to traffic, the West End Christmas
Carol-A-Thon aims to raise money and awareness for charity partner, Kids
Company, in support of vulnerable inner-city London children this Christmas.

To mark the launch, London’s Mayor Boris Johnson joined the UK’s top
retailers for early morning choir practice on the steps of All Souls Church on
Regent Street. Leading the way with a unique take on the traditional carol –
“We Wish You a West End Christmas” – the musical call to action aims to
encourage shoppers, visitors and seasoned singers alike to lend their voices
for a shift in the charity Christmas Carol-A-Thon. London’s Mayor was
joined by: Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, Chairman of New West End
Company; Mark Roper, Vice President & General Manager UK
Merchant Services for American Express; Camila Batmanghelidgh, founder
of Kids Company; Harold Tillman, Owner of Jaeger and Aquascutum and
Chair of the British Fashion Council; Paul Kelly, Chairman of Selfridges,
Steve Rowe, Director of Retail, Marks and Spencer and Simon Roberts,
Chief Operating Officer of Boots.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "The VIP Weekend is now a well
established, much heralded date in the seasonal shopping calendar and a
great way to celebrate the best the West End has to offer in the run up to
Christmas. I have no doubt that the Christmas Carol-A-Thon will be a
fantastic success and raise buckets of cash to help give a proper festive
celebration to the children who need it most."

From 11am-6pm on 10 December and 12noon-5pm on 11 December, the
streets of London’s West End will be given back to the public for a traditional,
magical Christmas celebration with Oxford Street and Regent Street completely
traffic-free. There will be live music and performances all over the streets to
drive festive fundraising. American Express will give double rewards to
cardmembers and £1 to Kids Company every time an American Express Card
is used in the West End over the weekend.

Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, Chairman of New West End Company said at
the launch, “Shop West End VIP Weekend is a world-renowned event and we
are expecting even more shoppers this year. What’s fantastic about this year’s
event is that it will not only give back to shoppers but will also raise significant
amounts for a very deserving charity. I can guarantee every visitor across the
weekend will experience the very best of London’s West End this December.”

for American Express says, “This year, more than ever, Shop West End VIP
Weekend is all about giving. We’re giving shoppers the West End traffic-free,

American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend

Stuck for things to do in December? Desperately in need of doing a little
Christmas shopping? The streets will be returned to shoppers in London’s
West End from Saturday 10 December 2011 for a traditional, magical West
End Christmas celebration and traffic-free shopping weekend. For the first
time ever, Oxford Street and Regent Street will be closed to traffic across the
weekend to celebrate the American Express Shop West End VIP (Very
Important Pedestrians) Weekend.

The American Express Shop West End VIP Weekend is the biggest event on
the shopping calendar and this year’s event will capture all that is best about a
traditional West End Christmas. Shoppers are invited to enjoy a whole extra
day of traffic-free, festive entertainment filled streets for hassle-free Christmas
shopping.

American Express have also announced that they will support a big fundraising
campaign for Kids Company - aiming to raise a target of £50,000 by donating
£1 to Kids Company every time an American Express card is used over the
weekend. There will also be a fundraising Carol-a-thon for which a text and
donate facility is available and a mass of on street collectors. The money will
help to support 3,000 vulnerable children and treat them to a Christmas lunch
complete with delicious food and presents.

Top retailers will also be offering brilliant deals and promotions over the
weekend – I’ll be there to experience the great atmosphere and hopefully do
a little for a great cause in the process!

San Rizz 'Gold vs New' Showcase

Recently a group of very talented folk I know joined forces to put on a
very special showcase. The Southampton branch of swanky hair styling
chain San Rizz unveiled their ‘Gold vs New’ collection, presenting an
array of super-sharp cuts and intricate up-dos just in time for the festive
season.

Salon manager Gillian and head stylist Becky did an amazing job with their
brilliantly talented team of stylists and technicians - the results were stunning.
My bff Soph of The Chic Parade styled the show, with much of the clothing
coming by way of Hepwrights.

All in all a successful evening - very proud to know such a skilled bunch
of females. If the evidence here (please don’t judge on the dodgy iPhone
pics) weren't enough reason to go book yourself an appointment, I can
vouch for the fact that this level of creativity along with superb customer
service is applied to each and every client.

Early Rise

Couldn't quite wait to share these shots with you, my friend and colleague
James and I took them on the way to work this morning (James is a graphic
and web designer at Mudpie). Both being keen photographers, the morning
sunlight was beautiful on our rural drive and with a little fog, we were provided
with the perfect ethereal backdrop for an early morning outfit shoot.

Some things you should know, it was FREEZING today, my toes in their little
shiny silver casings were freezing, so of course I was moaning, despite wanting
the photos - a few outtakes at the bottom for you of my moany face and James’
warming coffee, sat atop the car within easy reach, obv.

Organised Chaos by Uberluv

On Saturday 12th November, the distorted creative world of Uberluv took over
Southampton’s Grand Café for its inaugural art show. The brainchild of designer
Lee Murray, anarchic prints, acidic colour combinations and industrial installations
covered every surface of the stunning space. Comprising of 120 self-made pieces,
the debut collection provided a veritable fest for those whose artistic inclinations
verge on the progressive.

After heading down with my usual partner in crime, Miss Penn of
The Chic Parade, I caught up with the man himself to find out a little more
about the show…

Sarah-Leigh: When & how did your parent brand, Uber Studios,
begin?

Lee: Uber Studios was my second design company and started in
November 2009, it effectively was just a rebrand of my old company!
I wanted something that was cool and lifestyle based, we pay attention
to little details like putting a sweet in our letters and just being a little
forward thinking with our branding.

S-L: What gave you the idea for Uberluv and to move in to showcasing
your art?

L: Uberluv is just the twisted sister of Uber Studios, somewhere where
I can let all my creative spirit run wild without the constraints of
marketing agendas etc. Aside from the framed artwork, Uberluv will
release a t-shirt/vest range for the summer and designer mugs, cushions
& wallpaper! I’ve always wanted to do more with my art and
looking at the market there is a real gap for Uberluv!

S-L: What's next for Uber?

L: Well the big one is the online shop for the framed artwork, we have
big hopes for that, as we speak I’m assembling a team that will have
their own titles and responsibilities to push Uberluv to where I want
it to be! In the shop will also be iPhone skins and laptop skins as well
as the aforementioned t-shirts and designer mugs and cushions!

In Your Space: Walk Interior Design

Nestled in a surprisingly quiet corner of the Victorian terraces that form

Southampton’s inner city, sits Walk Interior Design’s HQ. Designed and

built in 1982 by local architect Robert Chambers, the interior was never

quite completed. Following Chamber's departure, the space remained

unfinished until it was bought in 2004 by Walk’s co-founders, husband

and wife, Elaine Walker and Gary Richmond. Since then the site has

been brought back to life with an extensive renovation.

I recently went to visit Walk Interior Design, taking a behind-the-scenes

look at Elaine and Gary's home and office while capturing the effortlessly

chic Elaine in her own environment (Gary makes a cameo in there too).

As it was evening by the time our tour took place, I'm sharing Gary's

own photos of the sleek exterior with a couple of shots mid-renovation.

Elaine and Gary’s home and office sits on the site, ardently restored and
turned into a space full of carefully curated design touches, furniture and
art. The office sits adjacent to the house, innovatively created from a
disused swimming pool. The polycarbonate roof was re-clad with
insulated panels and solar panels added to help with self-sufficiency,
creating an angular glass encased shape that you walk down in to. Inside,
the industrial-meets-Scandinavian décor utilises unusual items from past
photoshoot props, old tractor seats and rolls of fabric edging in amongst
the obvious bookshelves, desks and pencil pots to create a unique creative
space. The addition of a bona fide ‘Walk/Don’t Walk’ sign from New
York adds a personal touch, and some smart branding.

Inside the house eBay finds sit alongside antiques, designer pieces and bits
and bobs from reclamation yards. From an über contemporary Moooi floor
lamp to a giant mid-century modern Knoll desk designed by Richard Schultz,
diverse items from all eras complement the look and feel every room.
‘Minotaur Reading’, a sculpture recently purchased at The Affordable Art
Fair, adds a thought provoking addition to the main hallway, sat atop an
ancient safe dug up from a previous garden.

Throughout, style is mixed with comfort. Masculine lines and deep dark
woods are juxtaposed with tactile cow skin rugs and stunning soft
furnishings. Curtains from Lacroix sit effortlessly next to minimal
Japanese wooden stalls, creating drama defined by simplicity.

In my opinion, one of the most exciting things about Elaine and Gary’s
home is the details - cushions that have been made from prints found in
vintage stores, or created using a photographer’s images; accessories
built or restored by Gary; a framed phrase loved by Elaine. Illuminated
initials and personal imagery line the walls, while a single exquisite orchid
sits under a bell jar on Elaine’s dressing table, which, to me, signifies the
rare care and attention that has been deservedly placed on this truly
inspiring building.

Autumn Girl

Another peak at the adorable Rosie Sugden cashmere turban that I told you
all about here. I'm realising that perhaps I'm an autumn/winter girl after all.
I'd always thought summer was my season, all cut-off denim and bright bold
prints, but I'm enjoying nothing more that cosying up in chunky knitwear at the
moment. My wardrobe has also taken a seemingly orange/brown/cream route
of late, happily leaving me with little choice but to deck myself out in a rather
predictable autumnal palette.

Happy Birthday Hepwrights!

Last week my lovely friend Catherine and her clinquant vintage treasure
trove Hepwright's celebrated their first anniversary at their Bedford Place
shop. Nestled in amongst this Southampton street's boutiques and cafés,
Hepwrights' most endearingly provides our fair city's fashion mavens with
something that little bit different. So of course, we turned out in our
droves to help Catherine and shop manager Sophie celebrate.

Special mentions must of course go to super-talented milliner Rachel Drewer
and the rest of our amazing team (Rachel, Soph and I, photographer
Angela Ward-Brown and make-up artist Victoria Bunting) who put together
the campaign for Rachel's most recent 'Limelight' collection. The evening also
saw the 'official' launch of our lookbook, not to mention MAN at Hepwrights
which went down a storm! Must also say 'woweee' too to Hannah Banana Bakery
who provided the most divine vegan, almond and cherry birthday cake -
yum!

her (I tend to feel a mixture of them all), you can't deny the affect this woman

Courtney talks candidly about Kurt, daughter Frances Bean and what life is like
for her these days.

Carrieles de Colombia SS 12

Going to the myriad of seasonal press days that spread across London
at this time of year is part of the job. Sure, they're fun, and its great to
see the new collections up close, but after days of them ranges tend to
start looking a little fuzzy round the edges. Just when fatigue reaches its
height you spot a line out the corner of your eye that provides a little
clarity.

That's what happened last week, tired and wilting (last time I wear mega
heels and leather trousers for such an excursion) I arrived at the Surgery PR
press day. Ever the great hosts, I was fed, watered and walked round the
amazing Elms Lester's Painting Rooms that provided the backdrop for all
the brands on display. Nestled in the accessories hall, Carrieles de Colombia
shined like an authentic beacon of craftsmanship amongst the other, more
conceptual lines.

Taken from their website, the brand themselves rather endearingly
sum up their offer, "Inspired by the Colombian 'Carriel', Carrieles
de Colombia launches a unique collection of bags hand-made from
premium quality coloured and patent leathers cowhide. The
"Carriel" has a long history in Colombia, dating back more than
400 years. Although no-one quite knows the full history, it is
believed that it was an adaptation of a European bag that the
Spanish colonisers would have taken with them to Colombia.

In folkloric Colombian tradition, an authentic Carriel should contain
no less than 50 objects along with a few lucky charms. To protect,
the claw of a large animal; to entertain, a pair of dice and a deck of
cards as well as a love letter from a sweetheart. For this reason the
collection of bags contain a number of secret pockets.

Over time the style has evolved to become a modern fashion statement
worn by the stylish men and women of Colombia's most sophisticated
cities; Medellin, Cali, Bogota and Cartagena. The bags are all
hand-made in Jericho Colombia, by a small team of artisan handbag
makers who have been producing the bags for several generations.

As UK consumers increasingly embrace South American design, the time
is ripe to show that Colombia has more to offer the world than coffee."

When Rosie Sugden, the hottest new knitwear designer on the block, emailed
me last week to talk about a little collaboration, not only did I jump at the
chance, but was also so grateful to be introduced to an exciting new brand.
Mirroring my passion for British made products and traditional craftsmanship,
Rosie is one emerging talent I’m thrilled to talk about.

Rosie Sugden is the designer behind the eponymous luxury cashmere collection,
innovatively created and manufactured in Scotland. After graduating in Knitwear
Design, Rosie launched her own label earlier this year. Hugely inspired by her
natural surroundings, her debut accessories line juxtaposes Rosie’s distinctive
take on contemporary design with the natural beauty of the Scottish cashmere
she uses and exquisite craftsmanship.

Taken from Rosie’s website, her philosophy is to create “long-lasting products as
an antidote to the throw away clothing mentality and in support of British
manufacturing industry. Therefore all the cashmere is made in Scotland.”

When the inky black cashmere turban arrived I immediately noticed the luxurious
softness and attention to detail. With its careful folds and classic texture I
deemed it the perfect accompaniment to my growing collection of furs, chunky
knits and skinny denim jeans that seems to be forming the basis of my winter
wardrobe.

Make Up by Victoria

Just recently I’ve had the great pleasure of working alongside the supremely
talented make-up artist (and my future sister-in-law) Victoria Bunting on a
few photoshoots. By now you all will have seen the great job she did on the
Rachel Drewer Millinery x Style Files project, creating looks for Rachel’s latest
collection lookbook. Together, with me behind the lens, we’ve also been
working on Victoria’s portfolio, getting it chock-full of her latest work.

Victoria’s career started simply as a love for cosmetics and applying make-
up. Showing natural talent she progressed to work for Lancôme, training with
them until her dream job at MAC came up. A lifelong fan of MAC, she began
working at their parent company Estée Lauder’s head office, learning the
brand’s philosophy and vast product range. After extensive training and
compulsory counter work, Victoria worked for MAC’s ‘email an artist’
scheme before going freelance earlier this year.

Victoria’s professional and calm manner along with her flexibility and versatility
has made her the ‘go to’ artist for many local photographers, stylists and
blushing brides. Hey, I might be biased, but I think her work speaks for itself.

Organiser Anna Coombes of Miss Dolly’s curated a perfect collection
of authentic and inspired vintage vendors, from antique costume jewellery
to exquisite Rolls Royce’s, summer fete paraphernalia and tea cups for hire
plus rustic catering ideas and gramophones complete with nostalgic playlists.
Hair, make-up and crafty workshops in keeping with the theme kept visitors
occupied, while Dolly’s tea room provided the perfect base to watch the
fashion show.

So what did we actually find that The Betrothed and I will put to use? The
proof of a good event’s in the pudding right? Well I reckon we’ve found
transport, entertainment and catering supplies for our wedding from this
fab event, while I also found some great fabric for various things from
Daisy May's.

Miss Dolly's also provides vintage party solutions, with the team either
setting up in your home or venue or by bringing Dolly, their super-cute little
caravan (caravan lust has heightened further).

Above, to the left is The Original Fete Company with a unique
concept devised to entertain even the most sensible of wedding
guests. The company's husband and wife founders have brought the
idea, setting up a fete complete with all the best old games (bat the
rat anyone?), to the masses after creating it for their own 2010
wedding.

Below, Dolly's tea room featuring cakes from Jessica's Handmade
Farmhouse Cakes (I can vouch for their tastiness).

Little Al's Ice Cream from Old Crocks Vintage Hire (their champagne
sorbet was delicious).

Portable gramophones available from Hourglass Vintage Lifestyle.

The Silver Rocketeer is perhaps one of the coolest cocepts I've
ever come across. The old American Airstream has been coverted in to
a mobile Art Deco cocktail lounge. It can be bought along to any venue
to add something a little different to your special day.

In Your Space: Interior Inspiration

Every now and again you’ll be checking out one of your favourite sites
(The Selby) and catch a glimpse of something that just really resonates.
Sometimes its a place, sometimes an outfit, and in this case an interior.

The London home of interior designer Abigail Ahern, captured beautifully
by Todd Selby for mb! by Mercedes Benz, really hits home. Like my own
style Abigail has expertly mixed old with new, quirks with classics and all in
a laid-back yet ‘done' style.

I love this pad, should The Betrothed and I ever actually get round to
finishing our house, this is top of the inspiration board. I also love the vintage
Merc that Abigail chooses to cruise around town in – top of my ‘dream list’
too.

Baseball Caps are Back?

Baseball caps are having a bit of a fashion moment right now, spotted in a few
editorials so far and of course on the coolest cats on the city streets; one of my
favourite documenting dressers, Sandra of 5 Inch and Up, has been sporting her
monochrome looks around London town.

Never a fan of anything overtly branded, I can see the appeal of a minimalist style.
The trend is a marked move-on from the boho, country chic styles we've seen in
recent seasons, plus, with retro sportswear all over the ready-to-wear runways,
perhaps its a rather predictable accompaniment?

That said, fashion editors seem to be pairing varied textures with just about any of
this season's looks. Perhaps corduroy with your autumnal floral midi-skirt? Velvet
with a Peter Pan collar frock? Perhaps even the rapper headwear of choice in a
nice jewel-toned felt may work with a Gucci-esque 70s get-up?

After all the grandeur and glamour of shooting Rachel's Limelight collection, it seems
almost a shame to show you once again what I really look like, tee hee. I suppose
one must get back to reality, I can't quite parade around every day like an overtly
ostentatious lady of the manor at Mudpie HQ now can I...

Snapped this outfit on the way to lunch last weekend, adopting a 'go to' transitional
look. Autumnal colours are creeping in while the silk dress courtesy of Vero Moda
is great for warmer weather, but perfect for opaques and boots when it gets a little
colder too.

has been focused on photographing people in their own spaces, so above you'll

pleasure of entering...

The fourth and final set of images for Rachel Drewer Millinery's new Limelight
collection. Rachel said to me after the shoot she had a 'post-shoot comedown',
I agree, its rare to find such a great bunch of people to work with and in such
a breathtaking setting. We agreed that the best way to get over the bout of
feeling blue is of course to plan another one, and we most certainly are!

I really can't wait to work with all the fab ladies involved again soon.

By the way, couldn't not mention this spectacular mink coat from Hepwrights,
and the pink striped silk chiffon Hostess Dress by Norman Hartnell. Santa, if
you're reading this (I'm sure you peer over Mrs Claus' shoulder most evenings)
I want them, badly, please.

The third instalment of our 'Limelight' campaign photos here, following the

Aside from the exquisite dressing up, the highlight of the day for me was
working with a team who were able to bounce ideas off each other and
instantly 'got' the concept. It was especially nice to work with friends on
something, after many an evening spent discussing what we might like
to shoot one day... Another high point was finally getting to use the
Hepwrights' 'creature', which you can see below and may have spotted
in the b-t-s post... he is awesome but his claws still freak me out...

Rachel’s hats and headpieces looked and felt utterly fabulous, fun and
contemporary yet classic and chic all at the same time. I shouldn't have
favourites, but I did love the purple 'Cadenza' style with lace overlay and
real South African porcupine quills.

Behind-the-Scenes at the Rachel Drewer Millinery x Style Files Shoot

"Set like a lakeside temple in a landscaped park, The Grange at
Northington is the foremost example of the Greek Revival style
in England. The current exterior was created between 1804 and
1809 when William Wilkins encased an earlier house in Classical
facades, most strikingly the temple front supported on eight
gigantic columns.
Wilkins had been commissioned by Henry Drummond (1786–1860),
then owner of the house, who wanted something sensational in the
latest neoclassical taste. But he disliked the result and sold the
estate in 1817 to his neighbour Alexander Baring, whose family
continued to alter and embellish the house throughout the 19th
century.
After neglect and the threat of total demolition, the house was taken
into guardianship in 1975 and is today in the care of English Heritage."

Today, The Grange plays host during the summer months to a famous
opera festival, while falling unused the rest of the year.

Not one to let a building of such beauty go unused, The Grange also
recently played host to Style Files' most recent collaboration with
Rachel Drewer Millinery. Our stunning location was in fact Rachel's
idea and we, along with our fabulous cohorts, comprising of
photographer Angela Ward-Brown, make-up artist Victoria Bunting
and my fellow model and stylist Sophie Penn, made exceptional use
of this extraordinary place.

So, a bit of background information, in her own words, Rachel "left
her City career to study the art of millinery with established
London milliners, and on the renowned HNC Millinery course
at Kensington & Chelsea College, London. Rachel now
designs and handmakes hats for all occasions in her Hampshire
studio".

Rachel was in need of some beautiful new images to show off her new
collection, and as I'm always up for a spot of creative collaboration, we
set about enlisting a team of our best contacts to get involved in this very
special project (which also included a stunning vintage wardrobe from
Hepwrights).

The Grange provided the perfect backdrop, one of astonishing decaying
grandeur. While the outside of the building stands majestically tall, with
the gigantic pillars and well-kept grounds, the interiors tell a vastly
different story. Part-demolished, with only hints of the elaborate home
that once existed, and suffering from damp the building provided the
perfect setting for our shoot's theme of glamour with a tragic tale to
tell.

Room after room unveiled yet more options with crystal chandaliers, a
grand staircase and floor to ceiling views of the grounds. Underneath, the
basement provided yet more scenes and scenarios with dressing rooms
(including resident frog), tunnel-like corridoors and the pièce de résistance,
a cavernous theatre.

Over the next week I'll show you every aspect of our shoot, plus
the final shots by the amazingly talented Angela. Also, pretty soon
we'll be hosting a launch of the new season's collection and our

Mr & Mrs B

A couple of weeks ago The Betrothed’s brother got married and let me tell you,
A & L were made for each other. I know everyone says that but in this
instance it’s completely accurate. They complement each other perfectly and as
you can imagine we all had a wonderful day filled with stories, laughs and a lot of
love.

This was a proper DIY wedding, an army of friends and family all helped to
create a very special day, from hair and make-up, to flowers and even food, so
many people helped make the day a truly personal experience. This was also a
city wedding, where elements of A, L and the family’s lives crept in, basing the
day around where they grew up and live together today.

L looked absolutely stunning in her dress, which apparently was a dead cert the
minute she tried it on. Her t-bar gem encrusted sandals suited perfectly, as did her
hair and make-up. Our wonderful make-up artists deserves a post all of her very own…
which is currently sat in my drafts. Stay tuned!

Friday Five

Friday Five has been absent form the blog for a while and frankly, I’ve
missed it. Going on the lovely comments I’ve had about this weekly
addition in the past, I’m thinking you have too. So here’s a little
summary for you of what I’ve been up to lately, coolly represented by
eight photos… :)

Paris – took a quick two day trip over to Paris for Premiere Vision this
month. Sadly, despite visiting twice a year for the last five years, I’ve
only got to see the city, rather than the inside of the Parc d'Expositions,
a handful of times.
Boudoir Privé – I received my very first (gorgeously wrapped) Beauty
Box this week which introduced me to some great new products. I’m a
Zoya nail polish convert already!
Puppies!! – The Betrothed’s parent’s Shih Tzu had two puppies that
are now a very grown up nine weeks old. Shih Tzu’s are a bit of a tradition
in the family, of course we have two and I believe there’s a further five
amongst us, taking the grand total now to nine. Let me tell you, this dastardly
duo are up to mischief constantly - playing, fighting, biting, squeaking and
generally annoying all the other pets, but aren't they just the cutest things
you’ve ever seen!?? I want one desperately, and would call her Tallulah…
Blackberries from the garden – thank god The Betrothed can bake.
Coffee and cupcakes – currently my favourite way to catch up with friends
and family. Lola’s in Selfridges is an easy favourite.

Première Vision

The economic doom and gloom didn’t affect the fashion industry’s
foremost textile trade show Première Vision too much this season. As
reported on MPDClick’s Trend Journal, the Paris-based show experienced
46, 222 visits, while its co-located Expofil reported a 10% increase in
attendance from last year. The mood was indeed optimistic with stands
busy and many a deal being cut. I was there with Mudpie as we hosted
our usual stand in the Trend Bureau area. All of our products were on
display, including our newest, MPDVision magazine (I’ll be telling you all about
it soon), while I was on hand to explain and demonstrate MPDClick to
those hunting for a little creative inspiration.

Mudpie attend PV every season, its one of our most important events
and in the past we’ve also provided talks and seminars on seasonal
trends during the fair. This time was a little different for me, due to our
new project MPDVision I set off around the show to meet with numerous
mills that we do and will be working with. Exciting stuff, you could argue I
was like a kid in a sweet shop with all the stunning innovations and
applications that the show promotes. Being a bride-to-be too , I couldn't resist
a glimpse at the tens of lace vendors, who knew it could be so interesting!
I defy any woman or fashion lover to resist the charms of the likes of
Sophie Hallette (you may recognise one very famous design from the Duchess
of Cambridge’s McQueen wedding gown *squeal*).

Below, a visitor's rather intricate nail art.

Another highlight was also undoubtedly meeting the team at Harris
Tweed (above). Learning a little about their heritage, commitment to
trade and the sheer work and creativity that goes in to each and every
cloth was staggering. Read more about this iconic Scottish brand here.

For those of you that like to think ahead, or may indeed be working on a
collection soon, here’s a few of the top textile trends to come for a/w
12/13.

Lace – in every colour imaginable. Lace is going nowhere fast, designs
in neons, primaries and autumnal tones were most popular, while
embellishments are also big news with pearls, diamantés and delicate fur
decorating the filigree.
Reworked fur – fur is used in moderation, applied to add texture to
coated fabrics and used in tufts and pom-poms to add a little extra to
trimmings.
Rope & woven trims – a little 80s maybe, but rope trim was in
abundance. To freshen up, brands have taken inspiration from the
friendship bracelet, with ethnic woven lengths also offered in bulk.
Sporty leather – this season leather and suede was seen slim-line and
mostly perforated. We’re talking subtle and delicate, with black, grey
and tones of red key.

Fail-Safe

Quick snap of my favourite fail-safe; this H&M dress never ceases to make me feel
great and garner a few comments, most think its vintage! It mixes and matches
perfectly with different accessories and colours while, despite being a couple of
seasons old, always feels very 'now'.

Speaker for the Day

Those of you that know me well will recognize that I’m pretty passionate
about a few things, in particular university education, emerging talent
and to impart a little of my knowledge and experience on to those just
starting out. So when Southampton Solent University (I’m an alumni too)
asked me to be one of a panel of guest speakers to their first year journalism
students, I jumped at the chance.

OK, so I work in fashion, in trend forecasting by day, so trying to keep a
room full of enthusiastic young hacks interested, with specialism’s ranging
from multimedia to magazines and sport (to name but a few), was going to
require an informative, insightful talk with just enough tenacity and wit.
The result couldn’t have been better; I think I even saw a few of the sports
lads sit upright at the mention of going backstage at fashion weeks... I can’t
speak for all the students, although I’ve had some lovely emails from many,
but I too learnt much from my peers and fellow speakers.

From technology to politics, slow journalism and of course fashion, anecdotes
included perks of the job, passing on good practice, interview tips and insight
in to the many different forms of journalism and the multi-disciplinary
products that require it.

The session ended with a Q & A, with my favourite question being
an immediate ‘how much can I expect to get paid?’ - A resounding example
of an innocently expectant young journo, you’ve got to admire getting
straight to the point.

S/S 12 Trend: Citrus Hues

New York Fashion Week kicked off the ready-to-wear season with an
abundance of bright orange. While the front rows Tweeted all about the
welcome return of some vivid colour, a muted yolky yellow was hot on
its heels. While orange tones were almost neon, accentuated by playful
differing fabrics, yellows were seen in frosted tones with print and
pattern applications being key.

Displaying a few dirtied variations, London too was awash with yellow
and orange tones. While sophisticated labels such as Acne and Burberry
took things on a more transitional route with burnt spice and mustard
repectively, the likes of Nicole Farhi and Mark Fast played up with warm
shades applied on quirky shapes.

By the time the industry made it to Milan, citrus hues had emerged as
S/S 12's hottest colour trend. Milan's designers covered yet more ends
of the spectrum, from tomato red to chilli pepper and courgette flower
(literally at Dolce and Gabbana) to sulphur. Block colour competed
with vibrant prints and lace overlays - collections either sporty and
minimal or seasonally decorative.

LFW Highlights: SS12: Exhibitions

Every season during London Fashion Week, the British Fashion
Council curate a selection of exhibits to fill the esteemed halls
and space around Somerset House. From the Estethica initiative
to the NEWGEN space showing some of the country's best
emerging talent, the creativity and innovation on offer, aside
from the shows, is staggering.

Estethica is the Monsoon/Accessorize sponsored BFC concept that
shows established designers from the world of eco fashion alongside
fledgling brands. As this season's brunch and press conference, the
BFC's COO Simon Ward (pictured) spoke alongside Gregory Barker,
Minister of State, Department for Energy and Climate Change. While
Ward naturally descibed the week as 'the best in the world', Barker
praised London for its 'extraordinary, positive energy'. The point of the
gatheringwas to further highlight and promote these ethical brands to the
international visitors that descend each season and to discuss how the
BFC and British government will continue to nuture such talent and
progress in the UK's commitment to solutions on eco issues in
the fashion industry.

With great brands such as Dr Noki, From Somewhere and Ada
Zanditon displaying their wares, press and buyers were treated
to an educational morning with a myriad of creative and sustainable
options on the table.

This year, the NEWGEN space, sponsored by Topshop, was situated
out on the terrace behind Somerset House in a summery beach hut-esque
structure (all white wood with picnic tables). NEWGEN was launched
in 1993 by the BFC to support emerging talent - winners benefit from
funding towards shows, mentoring and sponsored exhibiton space
with alumni including Alexander McQueen and Matthew Williamson.

This season's space was packed full of inspiring visuals and new
collections, with this year's crop*sharing their moodboards and
thematic approach to design. As with most seasons, for me, JW
Anderson wowed with his pleated skirts-over-trousers and micro
paisley prints.

Also out on the terrace, British jewellery brand Lovebullets had
set up shop. I have to give them a mention, as not only are they a
friend, but also their stuff is pretty darn awesome. Lovebullet's
innovative creative director Martin uses bullets, nuclear
warheads and grenades as the subjects of his gems, cast in silver
and gold and often encrusted in stones. A firm favourite with the
likes of Jameela Jamil and the Geldofs, the spring/summer 12
collection was launched during menswear day last Wednesday.

Whirlwind

So the whirlwind that is fashion month, or ready-to-wear season, has begun.
We're two major weeks down and the third has just started. For me, it
also means trade fair season and so a fair amount of travelling around,
meeting and greeting plus covering shows and events with my team in
record time. Naturally such a season requires stylish yet practical attire.
That's where this gorgeous primrose yellow vintage jumpsuit from
Hepwrights came in during LFW.

Its in perfect condition and apparently made to measure for some great gal
in the 80s. It doesn't crease (perfect for hours spent in a car, train or plane),
is super-comfy and pretty darn unique. I fancied a go at playing with a
monochromatic look so teamed it with my easy-peasy golden yellow
New Look blazer and ASOS laptop case. Silver seemed like the way to go for
an accent, so cue my Topshop silver bow courts and this rather awesome
necklace from Lovebullets.

LFW Highlights: SS12: Burberry Prorsum

Burberry’s spring/summer 12 womenswear collection was one of juxtaposition.
While the run up to the show was documented via the instantaneous multi-
platforms of social media (they’re even on Instagram didn’t you know), the
show itself was all about craftsmanship, including crochet, weaving and
beading. As Creative Director Christopher Kane put it “celebrating things
that take time to do."

There was Bailey’s signature military touches throughout, albeit with a tightly
cinched, feminine edge. Far Eastern references were clear with high-waisted
skirts and origami like pleats and gathers. The unexpected unions didn’t stop
there; while sensible skirt lengths and subtle nods at 1940s silhouettes
complimented the demure palette, techno batik prints and youthful parkas with
wovens trims seemed to effortlessly fit together. Africa was undeniably
another influence with tassels and pom poms decorating hem lines, raffia chosen
for woven bobble hats and wedges, not the mention the evocative print
colourways.

If one statement piece emerged it was undoubtedly the parka, which overtook
Burberry’s classic trench at the helm of the outerwear ‘musts’.

LFW Highlights: SS12: Acne

Acne’s head designer Jonny Johansson took inspiration from a family
trip to Marrakech for spring/summer 12. Of course, in true Acne style,
this collection was never going to be about embellished kaftans and
up-turned babouche slippers, but rather, brought firmly up to date with
their typical Swedish touch.

Set at the Old Sorting Office, complete with mirrored catwalk, North
Africa was represented more in the warming tones of tobacco, spicy
orange and olive green with a cut-out star pattern reminiscent of the
region’s famous lanterns and modest layering with outsize shapes.

Naturally the collection was clean, minimal in places and with many
an ‘it’ garment. In particular, the super-wide-leg capri pants and billowing
kaftan-like tops with plunging v-necks caught my eye, while more
decorative pieces including a muted kaleidoscope printed short suit will
certainly fly off the shelves. Finally, the footwear, and in the words of
Style.com’s Maya Singer “Be on the lookout for Acne's giant-tasseled
loafers: The black pairs will be a hit, and the ones in sparkly electric
blue will be a fashion phenomenon.”

LFW Highlights: SS12: Topshop Unique

Lace, lattice work, body-con shapes, light-weight knits, heady
embellishment and Elizabeth Taylor’s incarnation of Cleopatra as
inspiration… Topshop Unique had it all.

With a front row that included a who’s who of fashion featuring Anna
Wintour herself, Sir Philip Green, Hamish Bowles, Meredith Melling
Burke and Caroline Sieber, it’s no wonder the show kicked off almost
an hour late. A gaggle of celebrities and influential bloggers also made
the most of the delayed start; Oliva Palermo, Kelis, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld
and Rumi Neely happily posed for street snappers Scott ‘The Sartorialist’
Schuman and Tommy Ton outside the Topshop show space.

Just before 4pm the cavernous ex-Eurostar terminal at Waterloo came
alive with the sound of early Noughties R&B (that had Kelis bopping
along all the way through). Out stomped top models, counting Bambi
Northwood-Blyth and Hanne Gaby Odiele among them, with flashes of gold
slicked-back hair in an array of black, white, gold and iridescent pink looks.
Cycling shorts, leggings, loose vests and maxis with dropped armholes were
combined with baseball caps with oversized peaks and roomy bomber jackets.
Tribalesque all over prints danced busily across garments while gold foil
prints and lamé (yes, its back) added to the metallic splashes of detail.

Taylor’s Cleopatra emerged emblazoned on sweater dresses while the Egyptian
theme continued with decorative armour-like placements and enlarged
symmetrical scarab beetles overlaid onto tops and dresses.

The footwear was another highlight, in the form of strappy flatforms all in
the collection’s striking colourway . All in all, general consensus was that
Unique had surprised the crowd - its ‘Ancient Egypt meets London’s urbane
cool kids’ aesthetic a resounding success.

LFW Highlights: SS12: Jayne Pierson

I'll be honest and say that none of my photos from the Jayne Pierson show
quite did it justice, so hope this fab video by Style And Then Some will
explain why.

Held at the home of the London Symphony Orchestra on Old Street, Pierson
used talent from the Royal Ballet instead of models, bringing a rather unusual
dimension to your typical catwalk show. She also collaborated with long-time
friend, knitwear designer Derek Lawlor, resulting in a collection where
craftsmanship and detail were the focal point. Hot orange tailoring, body-con
silhouettes and fringing that enveloped and sashayed around the dancer's bodies
made for a complete visual treat.

London Fashion Week SS12: Somerset House Style

A quick preview of London Fashion Week this morning in the form of
a little street style from around Somerset House. Those of you who follow
me on Twitter will have seen me running on about my attendance being
cut short this season due to a family wedding and Premier Vison being
earlier than usual. Well, the wedding was beautiful, our stand at PV is
being constructed as I type and i hope you'll be staisfied with my sporadic
fashion week reporting!

I still have a heap more notes to share from New York, and rest assured
my team of roving reporters have been out on the cobbles collecting all
the news and show coverage from London. Stay tuned here and to
MPDClick's Trend Journal for all the reviews and photos from the week.

Oh, and I'll show you must better pics of my monochromatic outfit too!

The Style Files & Hepwrights Summer Social

Last night, Thursday 15th September, I hosted the first Style Files &
Hepwrights Social alongside my great friend Catherine Wright, owner
of Hepwrights. Our aim was to gather our creative friends, colleagues
and acquaintances together in one place to meet, mingle and hopefully
spark a few ideas.

Our hometown of Southampton often gets a rough deal, the media and
locals alike often remarking on the lack of creative opportunity. Well, our
regular social should soon put stop to that! I think Catherine and I would
agree that the amazing turnout was both overwhelming and totally
satisfying. Our guests arrived from across the South, including artists,
graphic designers, trend forecasters, photographers, videographers,
creative collectives, make-up artists, bloggers, interior designers, fashion
designers, knitters… the list goes on.

Set amongst a backdrop of retro tunes and Hepwright’s stunning autumn
collection (oh the furs!), invitees were treated to Bellinis, canapés and
sumptuous mini cupcakes from Hannah Banana Bakery while many met
for the first time and got to know one another. If I had a pound for
everyone astounded by the sheer volume of other like-minded individuals
based locally, I’d be a seriously wealthy woman today! This considered,
I think we achieved our goal.

Through organising and hosting this event with Catherine I’ve met so
many great people, whom I have no doubt I’ll be collaborating with soon,
and have also learned of so many exciting organisations. It’s impossible
to mention them all, but in time I will. For now, here’s a few ‘musts’ for
you to check out: Rachel Drewer Millinery – we’ll be collaborating on
a shoot soon; the fabulous Bobbly Rainbow Socks blog – this future
fashion maven is just 13; The Marketing Collective – doing their upmost
to promote Southampton to the masses; up and coming photographer Lulu;
and Hampshire Style - a blog celebrating the stylish endeavours of our
county.

Special thanks must go to Walk Interiors, Zara of The Hideaway, knitwear
designer Adrienne Honie Ford and the Hannah Banana Bakery for
supplying us with some fabulous treats. Countless other people including
Susie, Caroline, Sophie and many more helped endlessly too, thank you so
much.

Well this post has been a long time coming - I've been wanting to show you
this delightful frock for aaages. Of course its from everyone's favourite vintage
emporium Hepwrights, and is pretty much the perfect summer party dress. I'm
in love with the obligatory eighties oversized collar, while the double breasted
details and faded floral give it a calmer fifties feel. Mmmm...

Speaking of my lovely friends over at Hepwrights, we've got a rather exciting
event planned this week... stay tuned!

Vogue's Fashion Night Out London

Wouldn’t it be bloomin’ brilliant if for just one night a year the
shops of fashion capitals across the world stayed open a little later
than usual, had great deals and promotions, allowed you to shop
alongside a-listers and fashion insiders while listening to really great
music and sipping a lychee martini…. Oh wait, hang on, that sounds
a lot like Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out!?

Held simultaneously on Thursday 8th September, retailers in
cities across the globe together join forces to produce a night
that brings everyday shoppers face to face with their style icons
and the designers of their favourite things.

I kicked off the 2011 edition on Oxford Street, to watch a catwalk
show of iconic department store John Lewis’ latest autumn collections.
As Jo Hooper, Head of Buying at John Lewis, commented on the night
“It was great to see such a varied audience enjoying Fashion’s Night
Out, the show was about making a catwalk show accessible to the
masses.”

The show provided an appealing insight in to what the store
has to come this season, from nostalgic 60s and 70s silhouettes to plays
on the androgyny trend with sharp tailoring and quirky touches. One of
my highlights included a calf-length tweed coat with oversized lapels –
its all about power dressing with outerwear this season!

After the show we (MPDClick's Heather and Jo were my
companions for the evening) had a quick look around the designer
collections, chatting through the new lines with Jo Hooper and
meeting Bastyan founder and designer Tonia Bastyan (formerly
of Press & Bastyan and Whistles), who kindly talked us
through her latest range with a sneak peak at some pieces that
will drop later in September.

Next stop, Liberty’s HonoLULU themed bash in aid of Lulu &
Co (get it?). The beautiful lady herself, Lulu Kennedy, and friends
including Henry Holland supped tropical cocktails and perused the
group’s latest pieces, while shoppers could take part in a fancy dress
photo booth and queue up for corsages from the store’s famous florists.

Quick pit stops in The Box (possibly London’s coolest shoe boutique)
and at the FNO t-shirt customisation station was followed by a saunter
up New Bond Street to round off the evening at the Alice by Temperley
collection in Selfridges, where the designer’s husband Lars took to the
decks.

Elsewhere we heard rumours of Gwyneth and Chris Martin partying
with David Gandy at Coach, while I’m waiting to hear if anyone won
a McQueen ‘folk tote’ bag as a result of their special offer for the
night. Shoppers could register on the luxury brand’s website for a
‘key’, containing a unique code, some of which would be winners.

Naturally, I thought I’d save one of the best bit until last, check out

7th September 2011, fashion a-listers celebrated yesterday evening as fair
trade fashion brand People Tree launched its new book, Naked Fashion –
The New Sustainable Fashion Revolution, in the John Lewis Brasserie,
Oxford Street. The book has been launched as part of Oxford Street’s High
Street Fashion Week and includes a host of celebrity contributors including
Dame Vivienne Westwood, Emma Watson and Caryn Franklin and offers a
positive read on ethical fashion.

Persoanlly, I'm a huge fan of the brand and often read founder Safia's blog
(another fitting tip off is the beautiful Edith dress - I've been eyeing it up for
ages!).

Author Safia Minney, CEO and Founder of People Tree, says: “Naked
Fashion aims to take ethical fashion to the masses, presenting fashion as a
tool which can be used to protect people and the planet. Over 40 designers
and creatives from around the world guide the reader through fair trade and
environment, styling and modelling, detailing what they are doing differently

Selfridges' Vlogging Stars at High Street Fashion Week

Yesterday saw the launch of a new online fashion phenomenon, the 'Vlog'.
Gone is the traditional blog, visual blogging - vlogging - is the new fashion
trend to explode across the high street. In celebration of this new trend, one
of Oxford Street's most iconic fashion retailers, Selfridges, yesterday hosted
an exclusive Vlogging Booth for high street fashionistas to to showcase their
best buys and tell us their favourite style icons. The High Street Fashion Week
Vlogging Booth yesterday kicked off the vlogging trend which is set to take
YouTube by storm.Young Louis in the video above is a superstar in the making!

Vlogging (essentially blogging via video) is a medium that I know is huge,
especially among teens and youngsters, but not something I've excercised on
Style Files just yet... there was my first foray in to the world of video for Buy
My Wardrobe, which you may have caught, but I'm not sure how confident I
am on camera! Stay tuned though, tonight I'll be interviewed for Fashion's Night
Out at Oxford Street's John Lewis - I'll post it and you can deliver your feedback!

Yesterday, Monday 5th September 2011, acclaimed London-based designer
Osman Yousefzada launched his second collaboration with high street giant
John Lewis.

Set inside a stunning installation (John Lewis’ travelling Fashion Pavilion) by
Grimshaw Architects, the collection comprised of elegant pieces in a strong
palette of dove grey, classic black and fire engine red. Asymmetric cuts, floor-
skimming column dresses and a covetable woollen winter coat made for an
utterly wearable collection of limited edition items.

The collection was combined with shoes by two of John Lewis’ further
collaborators, Terry de Havilland and newcomer Michael Lewis (also Design
Director of Shoes at Versace), whose vintage aesthetic combined perfectly
with the subtle 1970s references of Osman’s range.

Osman himself was there to meet and greet - I couldn’t resist telling him that
his minimalist red maxi dress had caught my eye! Simon Fowler,
MD of John Lewis Oxford Street, was also on hand to comment on the
creative initiative and stress the company’s support of creative collaborations, as
was Grimshaw Architect's Leandro Rotondi along with some of his design team.

The collection will be available exclusively in Oxford Street, Peter Jones,
Stratford and Edinburgh stores, and online at johnlewis.com.
